Profile

Simon Jass is a barrister and accredited mediator, specialising in civil and commercial dispute resolution.

After starting his career in 2004 as a junior barrister in chambers, he joined the dispute resolution team at a national law firm in 2009. As a senior litigator, Simon dealt with a broad range of civil and commercial disputes, corporate insolvency matters and regulatory prosecutions. This included litigation in the Senior Courts regarding the ACC Scheme and Accident Compensation Act 2001, as well as advising on the impact of the same. He commenced practising on his own account in 2023.

With a legal career that has spanned two decades, Simon has been, and continues to be, a strong proponent of the use of ADR. As a fellow of the Arbitrators’ and Mediators’ Institute of New Zealand (AMINZ), Simon takes a personable and practical approach to each mediation, facilitating a process that allows the parties to take control of the dispute, with the aim of achieving a negotiated settlement.

Simon is also a member of the NZ Bar Association, NZ Law Society, Resolution Institute, RITANZ and Society of Construction Law NZ.
